Energy Efficient Cities Initiative

National Grid provides GIS software-compatible maps of its electricity and gas networks, which represents the main interregional energy transmission corridors in the UK. However, 'transmission' should be distinguished from 'distribution'. The data does not provide data on energy distribution grids at the regional/municipal level.. Also, the data is intended principally for land developers; therefore, engineering data on energy flows and pipeline sizes is not included.

Type(s) of Data: GIS maps of electricity transmission cables and gas pipelines managed by National Grid.

Data Coverage: Most of the UK; National Grid should represent the main transmitter of gas and electricity.

Data Availability: Freely available.
